Rule 1: If They Don’t Click, They Don’t Watch

We’ll kick off the course with the most important rule of YouTube, because growing your channel all starts with getting people to click on your videos.

• In Chapter 1, we’ll start by outlining the 4 ways that audiences are discovering your videos on YouTube. Then we’ll dive into defining exactly who the audience is that you’re trying to reach so that you know what videos they want to watch.
• In Chapter 2, we’ll guide you through how you can earn the audience’s click. We’ll talk through how to use titles and thumbnails to get your audience intrigued, and break down exercises we use to create titles and thumbnails to grow your viewership. We’ll also go over one of our favorite resources for coming up with high viewership ideas.

Rule 2: Respect Their Time

Next in the playbook: getting people to watch until the end. Once you earn the click, you have to provide enough value to keep your viewers engaged.

• In Chapter 3, we’ll show you how to deliver on the promise of your thumbnail and break down our 5 principles of compelling hooks. The first 30 seconds of your video define whether or not your viewers will stick around. We’ll then dive into our favorite storytelling frameworks to keep your viewers engaged and bring on George Blackman to talk about a key exercise you can use for your videos: the 3 levels of scripting.
